macOS Sonoma brings us some great new ways to present remotely

Since the pandemic and resultant lockdown, video chat has become more widely used on all platforms. To make video communication even better, macOS Sonoma brings Presenter Overlay to Apple silicon Macs, a new feature that can be used with any video conferencing app, not just FaceTime.

If you’re sharing content such as your desktop or a slideshow, you can use Presenter Overlay to impose your image on top of whatever it is you’re showing, so the people you’re presenting to get to see you as well as your presentation. This is especially useful for business chats.

For more casual video conversation, there are Reactions (Apple silicon Macs only). These let you trigger graphical displays with hand gestures. Make a peace sign and the screen is filled with balloons. Two thumbs up gives a fireworks display, making a heart shape with your fingers throws up lots of heart icons and more. If hand gestures aren’t your thing, these Reactions can be triggered using a menu too.

While sharing your screen or a presentation in a video conference, click on the icon showing a screen and a silhouette in the menu bar. You see this menu. As you can see, Presenter Overlay can be Off, Small or Large.
