Marie Claire UK Magazine
3 July 2014
Nowhere is summer more eagerly anticipated than right here in the UK, which isn’t surprising given what a good show we Brits put on: from Wimbledon to Ascot, Glastonbury to Edinburgh, nobody does it quite like us. And whether or not we get the sunshine and soaring temperatures we basked in last year, the sense of anticipation and feel-good mood that always grips the nation means we’ll still do our best to have a good time – whatever the weather. So, to celebrate the great British summer, this issue is flled with all the hot and happening people, places and events to enjoy over the coming months – reading our 12-page A to Z festivals guide (page 105) certainly made me want to dig out my tent. We’ve also taken a look back at the life of a truly great Brit, the Queen (page 132), and spoken to some of our most fantastic home-grown beauty creatives, who put their own unique British stamp on global style at the international fashion collections each season (page 205). Plus, in praise of our fabulous high street, the Marie Claire fashion team gives you the inside track on the hottest buys of the season (page 51), as well as more ways to read marie claire Log on to marieclaire.co.uk or download a digital edition for iPad, Kindle, Nook or Google Nexus the best-kept secrets (who knew Karen Millen was a denim destination?). We haven’t gone entirely red, white and blue however, because, as you know, Marie Claire always has a global perspective on women’s issues. When writer Laura Millar travelled to the favelas of São Paulo, she witnessed how football is literally saving the lives of young Brazilian women trying to break the cycle of drugs and gang culture in their communities. It’s an inspiring story, and I expect I’ll still be thinking about it when cheering on the England team in the World Cup this month – well, at least until the penalty shoot-out. Enjoy the summer...
