HOW TO SURVIVE HMINECRAFT’S MOST DANGEROUS PLACES Minecraft isn’t all green fields and forests, and while there are no ‘bad’ biomes, some are certainly easier to live in that others. So here are some tips to thriving in those less hospitable regions...

Resource safe area_Finding a neighbouring green biome can provide a useful safety net for

Whenever you start a new game of Survival Mode, the chances are you’ll be dropped into a fairly familiar biome filled with trees, fields, and usually a decent amount of resources close by. However, that’s not always the case, and finding yourself in some tough terrain early in the game can be quite a challenge, from the game’s sparse snowy mountains to its vast barren deserts.

Of course, the quick fix is just to fire up a new game world and hope for something a little more welcoming, but that’s not to say these are places to avoid. Indeed, if you’re willing to brave some of these trickier and less bountiful biomes there are some great rewards to be found!

RARE RESOURCES

The common problems with these locations typically comes down to their shortage of everyday resources, such as trees you can farm for wood, along with plentiful food or water supplies. Experienced players will know a few tricks – such as mining tree leaves for saplings to plant your own supply (perhaps oak trees for bonus apples!), or placing two buckets of water into opposite corners of a 2 x 2 block pool to generate a self-replenishing supply. Among the most common examples of such locations are the many various ‘cold’ biomes, such as the snowy plains, snowy mountains and the ice spike backdrops. Unlike a few other survival games, the cold itself isn’t an immediate threat to your health. However, you can stumble upon powdered snow that you can fall through and take freeze damage until you dig yourself out.

It’s hard to spot, but wearing a pair of leather boots will act like snowshoes and stop you from falling in – while any piece of leather armour will prevent any freeze damage. One other thing to be wary of are the snowstorms that can get whipped up from time to time and make it hard to see, so maybe just find a safe space to bed down and see it through!
