Cinematics tell the story of the piglin invasion

The world of our favourite game has grown a little more recently, with the release of Minecraft Legends. It features a story, told through animated scenes at certain points in the game, that tells of an invasion of the Overworld by a piglin army using portals from the Nether.

Your character is then plucked from your stronghold by three strange ‘Hosts’ – Foresight, Action and Knowledge (our cover stars this month), the creators of the Overworld – who ask you to battle these dark forces. As the Overworld’s best hope, you journey through the biomes that you’ll recognise from the original game, defending villages, overcoming piglin strongholds, and destroying their portals along the way. But be careful, as horrible piglins and their hog masters – along with a myriad of other dangerous things – lurk in the shadows, ready to test your courage and skills!

All these dangers mean that you’ll need to learn how to make and control an army of ‘golems’, as well as use powerful new weapons – and even enlist inhabitants of the Overworld – to help your cause. It also demands that you make ‘Improvements’ to your building skills to turn the tide of the many battles you’ll face. While you can wield a mighty sword, and battle through obstacles and hordes of piglins alone, that will not be enough to save the day!

With its different style of play, Minecraft Legends is a very different type of game. Nevertheless, it offers plenty for adventurers who love exploring and building their own worlds. Encouraging creativity and resourcefulness, it demands that you gather materials and use them (and your knowledge of what’s needed) to craft the defences and weapons that will best serve your cause. As you progress, you’ll encounter other mobs and mythical characters who will join you on your quest. Each will add their own unique abilities and personalities to your team of heroes – and you’ll need them all!

Together, and with a little help from our playing guide, you’ll be uncovering the secrets of the Overworld and restoring peace to the land in no time.

So let’s become Legends!

GAMEPLAY

Unlike the so-called ‘sandbox’ style of play that we’re used to in Minecraft, which leaves you to do pretty much whatever you like – Legends’ gameplay style is known as ‘real-time strategy’ (RTS for short). The most famous example of this type of game is probably StarCraf
