Minecraft in2024

It’s set to be another big year for our favourite game, as Minecraft reaches its 15th birthday! So, as we move into 2024, here’s just some of what you can look forward to!

1.21 UPDATE

Planet Earth III DLC

Announced in October of 2023, the next big update to the game is due to be ready around the middle of next year (the last two, Trails & Tales and The Wild, have both appeared on 7th June, so keep an eye out for that date). These new changes are still being called the ‘1.21 Update’, as they’ve not been given an official name yet – though you can already experience some of these features in development versions of the game.

Over the next few pages, we’ll go through the big things we’re looking forward to…

1.21 UPDATE – ARMADILLO

Winner of the public vote during Minecraft Live 2023, with over 40% of the vote, the armadillo beat out (and we can’t believe this) penguins and crabs to become the new animal addition to the game in the next big update. We’re sure, like the rest of you, we’ll be looking out for these shy little things in savannah biomes – just approach them with care, or you’ll scare them and they’ll roll up into a ball… or should that be block?

But that’s not all that armadillos will do…

1.21 UPDATE– WOLF ARMOUR

Armadillos will drop part of their outer shell, called a scute, that can be used by players to create ‘Wolf Armour’. That’s exactly what it sounds like: armour for wolves! You’ll need to find and collect these scutes, and then craft the armour, which will give your pet some extra protection.

So why not help out your furry pal?

1.21 UPDATE– CRAFTER BLOCKS

The new crafter block may look pretty normal, but it will change everything

Perhaps the most interesting new block coming in 2024 is the crafter block, which will significantly change gameplay for a lot of you! Essentially, it can be set up to automatically craft anything that you could possibly create using a crafting table, and when loaded with resources will emit a single crafted item whenever it is powered by a redstone pulse. What’s more, they will even have multiple crafting slots that can be set up to make different things – and in certain situations they can be loaded from droppers. Items can also be loaded from or into hoppers.

We can’t wait to see what you make of, and with, these new blocks!
