Wonderful windfall

Go exploring after a spring storm and you may find a fallen branch to adorn with SPRING PRETTIES says floral designer JANE SCOTT

March brings breezes loud and shrill, stirs the dancing daffodil: so says Sara Coleridge in her poem The Garden Year. And according to recent research, walking in windy weather is a stress reliever. So my partner and I headed out to clear the cobwebs and ponder the wonder of wind.

We didn’t get far before we came across a beautiful birch branch, blown from its tree, and I immediately saw its floral faffing potential. Needless to say, we carried this twiggy treasure back home. Having made all this effort I wanted to display my branch somewhere it would get noticed, so I draped it over a coat hook, the perfect height for the soft twiggy ends to trail on the floor.

I then got totally carried away, creating a display for springtime, Mother’s Day and Easter, all rolled into one!

1 First I gathered everything needed: 7 wooden eggs, PVA glue, glitter, fabric scraps, paint and brush, reel wire, 6 glass bottles/jars and beautiful little birds from @petraboase. Plus, 5 tulips, 8 roses, 6 daffs, 2 each of waxflower, astrantia and goldenrod, and sprigs of ivy and conifer.

2 These hanging wooden eggs are from @concious_craft_co. I brushed 4 large ones with PVA glue and wound 1cm x 10cm fabric strips around them, making sure there were no gaps. I painted 3 little ones blue and lemon and, while the paint was wet, dusted on gold glitter for a sprinkle of twinkle.
