Selina’s garden style celebrate spring

Stylist & book author SELINA LAKE shares her on-trend styling ideas & glorious garden buys

There’s much excitement as this will be our first Easter with our baby daughter, Felicity. She is 10 months old and full of wonder! Easter is one of my favourite celebrations as I love this time of year in the garden with all the spring bulbs emerging and our blossom trees bursting into bloom, plus the added bonus of lots of chocolate to enjoy. And if you don’t celebrate Easter, then do celebrate spring! My husband Dave and I always enjoy hosting a family gathering on Easter Sunday and, if the weather is on our side, I’ll relish getting a space in the garden ready for the celebrations. But it needs to be quick and easy, because we all know how quickly a spring weather window can close!

A beautifully styled table where we can sit down to a roast dinner is a must. I start by throwing a linen tablecloth over our garden table, then add a vase full of blooms gathered from our borders. I pick a few blossom-laden twigs from our crab apple, one or two daffs and a few scented lilac twigs, which will just be starting to flourish. I’ll lay the table in a relaxed way, with piles of plates and glasses gathered so our guests can help themselves. I’ll roll up some gingham napkins to make them into crackers, filled with a few chocolate treats. Pudding is always a cake, along with iced buns decorated with edible flowers, both served with cups of steaming hot tea.

I also plan to give our shed a good clear out, now winter is behind us, so there’s room for some pottering. Another of my Easter traditions is to make a wreath for our front door using hay, twigs, spring greenery and pretty flowers, so I need that shed table cleared! However you choose to celebrate, I hope you have a hopping good time.

Make crackers from napkins

It takes moments to do and is such a pretty table setting. Simply roll up fabric napkins and tie ribbon at either end, enclosing a few chocolates inside for guests to find. A few sprigs of gypsophila or blossom pretties them up. Set of 4 Oaksey Linen Checked Napkins in Rosemary, £35 gardentrading.co.uk
