Protect your gardening get-up without compromising on style with a POTTER-PERFECT APRON
We all love to potter but whether we’ve just nipped out for a bit of weeding, a tidy up or repotting, our clothes can get soiled and damp quickly. Not only does an apron keep our attire cleaner and drier for longer but the thought of popping on a pretty pinny puts an extra spring in our gardening steps.
Keep it by the back door and you can quickly slip it on for a deadhead dash without having to change before and afterwards. And, if it has handy pockets, you can easily keep essential bits and bobs close to hand.
There are full-coverage, or bib, aprons, which are best for protecting your clothes from dirt; as well as waist, or half aprons, that are typically produced from lighter materials and have lots of pockets. This and their shorter size makes them cooler to wear in hot weather compared to bibs.
Long-lasting canvas, leather and waxed canvas will stand up to tougher jobs but can be quite stiff until they’re worn in, whereas polyester or denim aprons are more comfortable for lighter gardening activities. Also consider whether the apron can easily be wiped clean or thrown in the washing machine, or does it have to be carefully hand washed?
Whichever you choose, and whether you’re sitting more on the pretty or practical side of the apron fence, or even a bit of both, there’s a design to suit you. And if you don’t fancy the idea of an apron, but still want to be able to carry around small gardening tools, we’ve thrown in some tool belts too...
