If you like a meal with a view, Port Solent is a good place to head to, says Phil Sampson

B lue Margarita might sound like a comedienne from the late night comedy circuit, but I have to say the humour was somewhat lacking when we arrived at this shiny Port Solent eatery. Maybe the server was having a bad day, but my request for lunch for two on the terrace was greeted with a look I can only describe as frosty. However, after scanning the dozen or so outdoor tables she graciously smiled and ushered us onto the decking. After that, everything was fine. Given that every other outdoor table remained unoccupied for the entire duration of our stay, I’m not quite sure what the initial problem was…

In addition to the outside space there’s a large saloon inside which is tastefully decorated throughout, but when the sun’s out the terrace, with its uplifting view across the marina, is definitely the place to be.

Blue Margarita has two menus; one for food, the other for drinks.

Slightly oddly for a wine bar, wine is not actually listed on the 12-pagelong drinks menu, which focuses heavily on its extensive cocktail offering. There’s no wine listed on the food menu either. We visited at lunchtime, so wine wasn’t our highest priority, but I’m sure I saw a bottle or two behind the bar as I ventured inside to visit the restaurant’s squeaky clean loo. Fortunately, I had, so Mrs S felt she ought to do the decent thing by availing herself of a large glass of white.
