HAVE YOUR SAY IN PRINT AND ONLINE

PHOTO OF THE MONTH Mike Rothery sent us this beautiful drone image of his Princess 67 anchored in Sant Miquel, Ibiza, with a stern line tied to the rocks to keep it out of the swell. One bottle of Mainbrace golden rum on its way to you, sir!

TRAILERABLE BOATS

Have you ever done a feature on trailerable motor boats with cabins? I would be most interested if you have. We have so many good cruising grounds in England which can easily be reached by hitching up a boat to your car and driving to for a week or weekend.

We haven’t done a specific feature comparing different trailerable craft but we have covered plenty of individual boats that fit the bill. The limiting factors are the maximum combined weight of boat and trailer (3,500kg but only if your car has sufficient towing capacity) and the maximum trailer dimensions (7m x 2.55m not including overhangs). Realistically, this means a maximum boat size of around 8m, although the smaller it is the easier it will be to launch and recover. I tow my own Karnic 2250 on the road and Our Boats contributor Ed Elliot regularly trails his Finnmaster T8 around the UK and Europe.

CHEER UP

I have just got back from the Düsseldorf Boat Show and although I am physically and mentally drained (partly after too much German beer), I am feeling rather happier than before I left.

After a successful 2021 and 2022, many people were expecting the boat industry to slow down but there’s a tangible feeling of customers still wanting to get out there and explore the world. And while limited production capacity has caused waiting lists on some new models, there are still some delivery slots available for this year. As for the used market, although prices have dipped by 10% since their peak in October 2021, they are still 10-15% higher than pre-Covid levels.

So let’s all get out there and enjoy our boats without talking the market down.

I’ll raise a glass of fine English ale to that. But just the one!

STICKY SITUATION

I read your article on sticky diesel and am sharing my experience as requested. I have an SC35 based in Port Hamble and did about 50 hours cruising last year. Towards the end of the season, I had one of the engines show an error translating to restricted fuel flow at the pump. I changed the primary filters, which were black. The boat ran fine for a while but after around two hours of use the new filters were black again.
