It’s Suzuki’s first bike with semi-active suspension
Next stop the Alps

Suzuki GSX-S1000GX £14,799 | 999cc | 232kg (kerb) | 150bhp | 845mm seat height

At first glance it is easy to assume the new GSX-S1000GX is simply a GSX-S1000GT with longer-travel suspension, a more upright riding position and a bit of new bodywork. But dig a bit deeper into this crossover bike’s spec list and you quickly discover it’s so much more than that.

Not only is the GX the first GSX-S model to feature an IMU to allow it to run angleresponsive safety assists, it is also the first Suzuki ever to have semi-active suspension. Called Suzuki Advanced Electronic Suspension (SAES), the system has an automatic self-levelling feature that responds to bumps as well as acceleration and deceleration. Clever stuff, but there is also something wonderfully old-school about the GX thanks to its engine.

Packing the same smooth, torque-laden inline four as the GT, the GX is effortless to ride and has an ultra-slick gearbox. Add to this the GX’s altered riding position, which has its rubber-mounted bars 55mm closer to the rider as well as 50mm longer and 14mm wider, and a new three-stage height-adjustable screen and it all adds up to a serious mile-muncher. And one that once you turn off the motorway is more than happy to destroy a twisty Alpine pass. What more could you ask for? How about 4.9% APR and a monthly £129? Bargain.
