Lissy Whitmore, WorldWCR rider, Sekhmet International Race Team

If you’ve been following the junior classes at BSB over the last few years, or are a regular at Oliver’s Mount, you’ll already know about Lissy Whitmore. The Lincolnshire rider has big dreams of one day racing at the TT, but first she’s planning on honing her skills and increasing her profile at the WorldWCR – and is looking forward to helping change perceptions around women in racing.

“I think people are going to be shocked by WorldWCR,” admits Lissy, “because they’re going to see females basically riding like boys – just as hard, just as skilled, with the same respect!”

The young speed-lover, who narrowly missed out on becoming a fighter pilot, hopes that the championship will receive the same uplift in interest as that enjoyed by women’s football.

“I think it’ll be like the reaction that the Women’s World Cup had last year. People will start watching it, it’ll get the ball rolling, then people will realise, actually, it’s just racing. It’s not only women who’ll watch a women’s raceif you’re a true race fan you’ll watch it.”

Of course, Lissy says she’d love to become world champion, primarily so that she can repay all the sacrifices her parents made for her to chase her
