‘Huge TT achievement’

So we need to know in detail if the third reserve goalkeeper for England’s Euro squad has a broken toenail but the greatest TT rider of all time tops his uncle’s ‘unbeatable’ record of IoM wins and is it all over the news? No! Not a mention apart from the specialist press. To win a TT is a massive achievement, to win 29 of them is phenomenal. I know some will argue that Joey had fewer races to enter, but Michael has not only won more but has won a bigger percentage of his races and has rostrummed a greater percentage as well. Arguments will always rage, including about the quality of opposition, but Michael is up there with the best. Is it not time this was recognised? Perhaps a knighthood for services to sport? As Buddy once sang ‘That’ll be the Day!’

‘Net zero scam’

I’m bitterly disappointed to see that the MCIA are still committed in their manifesto to the net zero scam (MCN, June 12). More and more rational people are seeing through this fraud, whose only purpose is to make a very few very rich while impoverishing the vast majority. I would have hoped MCIA members would have more common sense.

Bring MotoGP home

Is it time for MotoGP to return to Donington? I don’t see how Silverstone deserve to keep this event as they do not support any other motorcycle activity at the track. In addition to that, Silverstone is a poor circuit for viewing and fairly soulless. In my experience the customer experience is far better at the MSV tracks, of which Donington is one. If they are OK to run World Superbikes, surely it’s not too much of a step to bring MotoGP back to Donington Park?

It is time for the return of the glory days of GP racing at Donington?

New age of biking

China will be the biggest global producer of not only developing world motorcycles but also first world motorcycles. There are a number of factors that have determined this, however the biggest is the availability to Chinese manufacturers of cheap semiconductors. The biggest differentiating factor between automotive products today is the ever-increasing number of electronic features they offer, resulting in the use of dozens of specially designed, dedicated chips. Chinese motorcycles will offer higher levels of sophistication at a price that European and Japanese manufacturers cannot hope to compete with. The motorcycle kingdoms are changing, but this is a utopian future of feature rich exciting new products.
