Blown Triumph Speed Twin created in just four crazy days

As retros go, Triumph’s Speed Twin 1200 is at the sportier end of the spectrum, but with 99bhp turning its back wheel, the Hinckley classic is unlikely to set any records.

Enter the ‘Super’ Speed Twin. A supercharged one-off creation by Bristol based Triumph specialist, Martin Motorcycle Co (MMC), built in just four days for the Bike Shed Moto Show in London.

The torque sits at a claimed 116lb.ft and peak power is said to be knocking on 160bhpnot bad for a parallel twin roadster!

“I’ve wanted to create a muscle bike for some time now,” said Alex Martin, managing director of MMC. “I got a call asking me if I wanted to come to this year’s Bike Shed show. I didn’t have anything built when they asked so I ended up working 7am until midnight, four days straight with one of our technicians, just to get it finished.

“The first time we got it started wasn’t until 11pm the night before the Bike Shed show,” Martin added.

The Rotrex C15-60 supercharger MMC used for the project was sourced from TTS Performance. It cost more than £5000 and is said to give “fantastic throttle response and acceleration”.

Boosted power isn’t the only thing that makes this Triumph special, MMC also fabricated a custom stainless-steel exhaust for the special build, had the tank and bodywork panels finished in an ultra-trick ‘ghost fade’ paintjob, fitted uprated YSS rear shocks and specc’d the forks with Öhlins internals and DLC coated stanchions to give the Triumph the handling to match its newfound thrust.

Martin also modified the machine’s rear subframe, cutting off the rear pegs and shortening the back end.

He also powdercoated various parts throughout, including the swingarm and supercharger (finished in mean-looking black to complement the stealthy aesthetic throughout), added a custom headlight assembly and to top off the build, deployed a smattering of carbon fibre here and there to cut un
