‘Still riding at 91 years’

A few years ago you were kind enough to publish my letter about a tour with my lad, Patrick, on his first bike and my dad, Donald, then 85. You also sent us some very nice T-shirts. Well, time passed and, despite the quality, the Ts got a bit ragged.

Dad agitated about needing a new one, so a new tour was decided. I took Patrick down to Yorkshire on my Tiger 800 to pick up a nearly-new BMW 310GS and we met up with Dad in Gomersal and his trusty CB500.

We then met Kai in Newcastle, on his Bandit 600. After a night in Stirling, we headed to Kennacraig and the ferry to Islay.

A few days seeing the sites and and then back to Kennacraig and up the coast to Morar. All in all, about 1500 miles. I hope I can still ride across the Hebrides for a T-shirt when I'm 91!

Write something that spikes our interest, and you could get selected for the Star Letter slot. Each week one lucky reader will receive an MCN T-shirt in a variety of different designs

Scott’s done it now

Scott Redding appears to have shot himself in the foot by complaining about Alvaro Bautista’s weight. Now the rules have changed to ensure Bautista cannot win, it leaves Toprak a free run for the championship on an identical bike to Redding. And where is Redding finishing? Way, way back...

Big-mile charity challenge

A friend and I are embarking on a 5000-mile ride around the UK coastline, taking in some Scottish islands on route. We are trying to raise awareness for men’s mental health charity Andysmanclub. So far we’ve raised over £5000 and have received great support from various businesses, both within the biking community and outside. With a lot of people having mental health issues themselves, and attending the meetings, we started off with a target of £5000, which would have been £1 for each mile, but we have surpassed that now with donations continuing to come in via our just giving https://ow.ly/ay6H50SkF8X

Don’t wreck the TT

Like many regular TT visitors, I am concerned by the number of people who seem oblivious to the behaviours expected by spectators. I lost count of the times I heard of people entering the course once the roads were closedwitnessing several occurrences personally. Also, with multiple warnings for drones and selfie sticks it seems that some are more concerned with capturing the ‘perfect shot’ than the safety of all involved.

As the popularity of the event continues to rise and reach new audiences, I suggest that more information on the do’s and don’ts are made more prominent when arriving on the island.
