Master the art of dressing well at any age
WORDS: ANGELA BARNES ALL PRICES CORRECT AT TIME OF GOING TO PRESS
Looking and feeling stylish isn’t about turning back the clock – it’s about embracing the age you are and adapting how you wear your clothes.
Celebrity stylist Angela Barnes has worked with glamorous women of every age, from Emilia Fox to Helen Mirren, and firmly believes that the trick is to wear the latest trends in a way that you feel comfortable in above all else. We asked her to show us her favourite new looks for the season, and tell us how to wear them with confidence.

“A black blazer can be one of the most versatile items in your wardrobe. A tailored version in a quality fabric can elevate jeans and a simple top or add a slick edge to an evening outfit. Pear-shaped ladies look best in one that hits just below the hips; petite ladies look best in a cropped style with bracelet-length sleeve. A button creates a focal point and the appearance of a slimmer silhouette.”

“Smart casual is comfort dressing at its best. A classic Breton top looks as good on grandmothers as on twenty-somethings. Brigitte Bardot styled hers with capris and ballet pumps; the Princess of Wales wears hers with skinny jeans and loafers. Team with bold trousers and plain pumps this season, or with black trousers as Coco Chanel did in 1930.”
