Sensitive skin shows itself in many ways, from dry patches to pimples, inflammation to irritation. Causes can vary, says skin specialist and founder of Grafton Spa and Wellness Georgina East.

“Some women develop sensitive skin in middle age because of hormonal changes that affect their skin’s barrier function, moisture level, and sensitivity to irritants,” she explains.

“As oestrogen levels decline during menopause, the skin becomes thinner, drier, and more prone to inflammation and redness,” adds Georgina.

“This can make the skin more reactive to products or environmental factors that were previously tolerated.”
