Try some Maypole dancing!

Welcome summer in style this May Day bank holiday on Monday, May 6. With its origins in paganism, May Day is a celebration of the fertility of spring and the beginning of the warmer, summer months.

Every year, hundreds of villages and towns across the UK will celebrate the day by dressing up and gathering together for traditional activities such as dancing around a Maypole or May Tree, crowning a May Queen, gathering wildflowers, or weaving special garlands to welcome the warmer season. Another gritty role for Kate

The Regime is a darkly comedic series telling the tale of one year behind the scenes in a modern European regime, at a time when everything has started to fall apart. Kate Winslet plays a paranoid Chancellor, whose misplaced trust in a volatile soldier puts her in jeopardy. Directed by Stephen Frears and perfect for fans of Succession, the series is available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

Go Dizzy For Eurovision!

Get set to cheer on Olly!

The annual Eurovision Song Contest is due to begin in Malmö, Sweden, from May 7 with the grand final taking place on Saturday 11th. British singer and actor Olly Alexander has been selected as this year’s UK entrant, singing the upbeat dance track Dizzy, which he co-wrote with Danny L. Harle. Win or lose, it’s well worth tuning in to the coverage on BBC One for an evening of singing, dancing, spectacular costumes and effects, plus surprising twists and turns as 37 countries compete for the coveted top spot. A galaxy of entertainment is guaranteed!

Celebrating The Planet

Fancy doing something great for the planet? Why not take part in an Earth Day event on April 22?

The awareness day was first held in 1970 in the US. Back then around 20 million people took part – 54 years on, over a billion people from more than 192 countries are expected to participate in activities such as talks by environmental experts, creating art, or joining in neighbourhood clean-ups.

In Weston-on-Trent, Derby, participants will be making an Earth day wall hanging from recycled plastic, and will have an opportunity to attend lectures on soil and solar panels. In Dublin, volunteers will gather for a community clean-up at Elmpark Green.
