THELMA & LOUISE

Thelma & Louise is the ultimate summer road trip movie! Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis shine as the titular characters who forge an unbreakable bond when they find themselves on the run from the law – and who could forget that iconic final scene?

ROAD TO THE RED CARPET

This thrilling story of two women shedding their mundane lives and hitting the road in search of freedom was conceived by Callie Khouri, who couldn’t get the idea of “two women on a crime spree” out of her head. Thelma & Louise was her first screenplay, winning her an Oscar in 1992.

MAMMA MIA!

This much-loved musical has everything you want in a summer feel-good film. It’s a non-stop blast of catchy ABBA songs set on the fictional island of Kalokairi where crystal-clear water and endless sunny skies stretch as far as the eye can see. Our favourite scenes include the Dancing Queen performance where Meryl Streep’s character Donna jumps off the pier, and the epic finale of the cast strutting their sequinned stuff to Waterloo!

TAKE A CHANCE ON SKOPELOS!

Follow in Donna’s footsteps and have your very own island adventure on Skopelos where most of the movie was filmed. This unspoiled haven is surrounded by the brilliantly blue Aegean Sea and is famed for its rugged lushness – the land is draped in dense forests, olive groves, orchards and vineyards. Skopelos has no airport so you’ll need to fly to Skiathos and board a one-hour ferry before you can explore this Grecian gem.

THE NOTEBOOK

Few summer romance films are quite as tear-jerking as The Notebook, a beautiful tale of everlasting love against the odds, starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. It’s a wonderful adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’s first published novel and we love the 1940s nostalgia. The film didn’t set the box office alight on its release but has since become a cult classic.

CLASSIC AMERICANA

Although the story is set in North Carolina, the majority of scenes were filmed in and around Charleston, South Carolina.

A scenic boat tour of Cypress Gardens is a must, before stopping by The American Theater to marvel at its fabulous Art Deco exterior. Eagle-eyed movie fans will recognise this as the cinema where a young Allie and Noah watched Buster Keaton in Li’l Abner.
