We’re in the middle of Black History Month and it’s not too late to support this important event in our calendar. In doing so, you could end up learning more about the world and our history, as well as having lots fun into the bargain!

The theme of this year’s Black History Month (BHM) is Saluting Our Sisters, and the aim is to highlight the amazing and essential role black women have played in shaping communities and bringing about change.

Reports show that black artists and performers still earn an average of 35% less than similar white performers – so what better way to show your support than to get out and enjoy some hand-picked events?

There are so many different ways to support and enjoy Black History Month, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Whether you want to go and see a comedian perform live, fancy a bus or walking tour, or want to get your glad rags on for a night of ’70s disco nostalgia belted out by some amazing singers, it’s all here.

We’ve chosen some fabulous women taking centre stage, but there are also some brilliant shows fronted by men that you won’t want to miss. Enjoy yourself!

2 Ballet Black: Pioneers

The second work on the bill, Nina: By Whatever Means, is inspired by the story of amazing singer Nina Simone. She led a turbulent and intriguing life, so it’s sure to be fascinating. Even if ballet has never really been your “thing”, this show is worth checking out. The running time is short and it’s
