Supervet Professor Noel Fitzpatrick (55) on laughter, dad dancing and how animals help us be our true selves

● I am a passionate storyteller. Having the opportunity on tour to share an evening exploring how the way we view, understand and treat animals to make the world a better place, is a real privilege, and I don’t take that for granted.

I’m Irish, like to tell a yarn and like a laugh. I also do a bit of dad dancing! Animals are at the core of it, though, of course.

● It is with our pets that we show our true selves. Cats and dogs are emotional “stents” that allow us to be ourselves and access the part of ourselves that is really important and sometimes we can’t share with humans.

There’s a lot to be learned from being with an animal and allowing yourself to be your true self.

I think in the world today we find it very difficult to be our true selves with social media and everything else. Animals break all that down. Whether you’re a pauper or a prince, you’re equal.

● Our pets teach us to love, respect and be kind. Throughout my life I have many stories to tell from the animals who inspire me and have healed me through their demonstrations of bravery, openness, and kindness.

This is an honest and open account of life, and I hope many will relate to it, laugh and celebrate the only thing that matters at the end of it all – love.
