The sixth and supposedly final series of The Crown returns on November 16 and, while it remains controversial thanks to its dramatised portrayal of the Royal family, it’s also one of Netflix’s most-watched shows.

So, what can we expect from the new series? And what are the real secrets of the show’s success?

This series will feature the same main cast as season five, including two fabulous actresses – Imelda Staunton as the Queen and Lesley Manville as rebellious Princess Margaret. Here’s the lowdown on what we can expect to be viewing!

◆ It’s likely to feature events from the mid-1990s to early 2000s.

◆ Kate Middleton is expected to become a major character, as Prince William heads to the University of St Andrews. Look out for her strutting her stuff on a catwalk in a bandeau dress!

◆ The tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales, will be a major storyline, to the fury of critics.

◆ Harry and Meghan are not likely to appear. “Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end,” says the show’s creator, Peter Morgan.

The Crown Is A Joy To View

I think the period style of The Crown is one of its biggest draws. It’s a real visual feast, with some absolutely luscious recreations of iconic gowns and jewels.

Some of these pieces are so instantly recognisable they have the power to pull us straight into the action or even, if they don’t work, to throw us right out of it.

Look Out For Princess Margaret’s Cocktail Frocks And Bling

One thing that has really stood out for me is when they haven’t recreated pieces so much as run with a theme and let their imaginations have free rein. We’ve seen this quite a lot when it comes to jewellery, with Queen Elizabeth acquiring a whole host of production-created brooches, as well as various members of the family appearing in a whole grab bag of tiaras.
