● One of the golden rules of modern psychology is that whatever you focus on in life, you attract more of. I think rather than dwelling on how bad life is, we should focus more on the good stuff. Never in the history of the world have we – in the Western world at least – been healthier, lived longer, had more freedoms. People forget that but reinforcing it at a subconscious level will bring you more of it.

● Happiness is different to pleasure. Pleasure is a glass of champagne whereas happiness comes when you’re leading a life that is in sync with your values. This can be combined with being with someone you love or love to be with, being intimate with them... The beauty of nature, feelings of achievement, a love of animals. Happiness is about the way you live your life.

● People are more depressed than they used to be. I think we’re going through a kind of psychological pandemic. Suicides, depression and anxiety are off the scale. We’re bombarded with 24-hour news that tends to focus on the negative, and there are countless other relentless demands on us and our time. What do we need in the world right now?
