● If I hadn’t been an actress I’d have probably worked with horses.

I used to ride when I was younger and I worked at a stables. But there’s not a lot of money in it and you have to be up really early in the cold, so I don’t know how long I would have actually lasted.

Coronation Street is a really good place for a single working mum.

It’s a steady job and a nice job. I enjoy working there and it’s suited my lifestyle as well. When you’re in a storyline, you’re busy, but when you’re not you have quite a lot of time to be at home, so it’s afforded me that luxury, so I can look after my son. I feel very lucky.

● My party trick is the Cereal Box Challenge.

You pick it up from the floor using only your teeth and only your feet can touch the floor. You then tear an inch from the top of the box for the next person’s turn. I’m very flexible and I can pick it up when there’s only an inch left – people are always impressed by that!

● My 16-year-old son doesn’t watch Coronation Street.

In my latest storyline, Tracy has a fling with the decorator, because she’s bored with her life, but Otis won’t know about it and I don’t feel that I need to tell him about it!

Movie Tears

The one film I’ve never been able to get through in one go is Shadowlands with Anthony Hopkins. I don’t think I could try and watch it again, because I remember how upset it made me feel.
