● Walking is very therapeutic to me, it’s my form of meditation. So Pilgrimage: The Road Through North Wales really appealed. How often do we talk about important things – why are we here? what’s the meaning of life? We walked the Pilgrims’ Way and stayed in all sorts of places, from a nunnery to eco huts to a Buddhist retreat.

● The most spontaneous decision I ever made was to move to South Africa. For years I had this dream of living in Africa. I decided to buy somewhere in Cape Town and that random decision completely changed my life. I met my partner Nick during that same week that I was out there buying the house.

● I actually forget that I’ve had breast cancer. It was ten years ago and I was extremely lucky; it was diagnosed early and dealt with. I had a double mastectomy, which took a while to get used to, but I’ve learnt to appreciate that the scars that I wear tell a story of reliance and survival and I’m at peace with that.

● The secret to a happy relationship for me is being independent, like-minded and sharing a sense of humour. Nick and I both have a huge love of the outdoors and conservation so we’re very much on the same page with our thoughts and beliefs. Humour is also a big part. We take the mickey out of each other all the time.

Pilgrimage: The Road Through North Wales airs Fridays, 9pm from March 29 on BBC Two.
