Helen Flanagan has bravely spoken out about her “terrible” mental health battle after splitting from former partner Scott Sinclair.

The pressures of raising their three children and dealing with the split came to a head for Helen a few months ago, prompting her to take medication, which she says led to psychosis.

Opening up about the tough time in a recent Instagram post, the 33-year-old candidly spoke about her battle in the hope of helping others who might be going through a similar situation. She also assured her fans that she was feeling a lot “lighter” now.

“So basically I really struggled mental health wise December/ January. I felt really not great in my head over Christmas and I didn’t really feel that much different when I took the kids away for New Year,” she began.

Helen continued, saying that her struggles meant she had to step back from her planned appearance in theatre production, Cluedo 2. “I had a lot of difficult things going on, things I just can’t talk about on Instagram.

Helen – who shares daughters Matilda, eight, and Delilah, five, and three-year-old son Charlie with Scott – added that she had to stay home to “feel better for me and my kids”, and was supported by her parents while getting back on track.

She concluded, “Therapy can be amazing and I feel like I’ve worked on myself with things that were quite tough to me but I feel lighter now. Sending love and please be kind.”

And while the actress has been through some dark times, a source tells new that she is finally bouncing back and is feeling strong again.

They said, “She was putting on a brave face for so long and the split really took its toll on her. But now she’s over the worst of it and Helen feels better than ever.

“It took her a long time to adjust but she’s accepted things are in the past as she focuses on the future.
