Germany gets new top-end event

A major new German concours has been announced by the team behind the London Concours and the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court. Thorough Events has teamed up with its Hampton Court sponsor, watch company A. Lange & Söhne, plus auction partner RM Sotheby’s, to launch the six-day Concours of Elegance Germany, which will take place beside Lake Tegernsee in the Bavarian Alps in July 2024. The organisers promise 200 historic vehicles will gather at Gut Kaltenbrunn, 40 minutes’ drive from Munich, for the concours on 26-27 July. The event will be preceded by a four-day tour, and the first day of the concours will be by invitation only and limited to 1200 guests.

Epic electric adventure

A pre-production MG Cyberster EV piloted by Ross and Hugo Turner has set off on a range-anxiety-triggering seven-month, 10,000-mile globe-trotting journey that will end in Shanghai. The expedition is to traverse England, Scotland and Wales before heading overseas to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

MGs to take over Paris

France’s leading classic car show is to offer an unprecedented display of British cars in February 2024. Rétromobile’s central exhibition promises to showcase more than a dozen hugely important MGs, including the 1925 Old MG Number One (pictured above with Cecil Kimber), 1938 MG EX135 and 1957 EX181.

Modded for the movies

A new exhibition – ‘Hollywood Customs: Modified for the Movies’ – has opened at the Petersen Museum in LA. Visitors will see more than a dozen iconic vehicles from TV and the movies that were specially modified for their role. Highlights include the Back to the Future 1981 DeLorean, the 1967 Meyers Manx from The Thomas Crown Affair (see Octane 243) and the 1967 Ford Mustang ‘Eleanor’ from the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds.
