Overlander 4x4 Magazine
10 April 2020
Britain may be in lockdown, but the May issue of 4x4 magazine has plenty to get you looking forward to the days ahead when we’re all able to get back out there and start enjoying our vehicles once again. Instead of our usual green lane roadbook, for example, we’ve compiled a guide to 50 of Britain’s very best rights of way. Covering the length and breadth of England and Wales, it’s packed with suggestions for classic drive-outs – including lots of info on other lanes you can add in to the big ones to create mini-roadbooks of your own. If venturing further afield is your thing, you might well have been on a guided 4x4 tour to Morocco before. But beyond the borders of that wonderful nation is the altogether less well known Western Sahara – and this month’s issue contains the story of the first British tour operator ever to run a recce trip there. Still not far enough away for you? Solo travel in the Australian Outback is the ultimate goal for many overlanders. Just getting your vehicle there is a pretty big deal, but once there you’re in 4x4 heaven – as our travellers’ tale will confirm. On the vehicle front, we’ve got a bumper crop of new, modified and purpose-built 4x4s to inspire you. These range from a Volkswagen T25 Syncro which has been transformed into a battered but brilliant off-road wagon to possibly the finest Land Rover Defender there’s ever been – Arkonik’s new LS3-engined 110 which, if you were to order one like it, would represent an investment of around £200,000. Talking of investments, if you fancy owning something totally unique and very, very special, we’ve unearthed a Chevrolet Suburban whose owner took it to a US company that specialises in building rock-crawlers – and brought home a jaw-dropping show car combining the presence of a full-size SUV with the off-road ability of a proto. Seriously, you’ve got to see this one to believe it… We’ve looked back at a classic Range Rover rally car, too, and we’ve been in the workshop as our Isuzu D-Max GO2 build continues and our Defender 90 Td5 is returned to standard. We’ve tested the latest Dacia Duster, too, as well as Skoda’s flagship Kodiaq vRS and the revised Isuzu D-Max AT35. Add in all the latest news on off-road products, rights of way matters and the next generation of new 4x4s, and the May issue of 4x4 is an absolutely jam-packed read. And don’t forget – with our 12 issues for £12 offer, you can get Britain’s only off-road magazine delivered to your door for just £1 a month!
