There’s a bit of a laning theme to the latest issue of 4x4. Having taken a trip through Slaley Forest and the relict industrial landscape of Durham and Northumberland for a previous roadbook, we felt compelled to delve into the history of the region and tell the story properly… and then when Isuzu sent us the latest D-Max AT35 to test in the middle of summer, it would have been rude not to head for Salisbury Plain and take advantage of all the red flags being down. And then of course there’s this month’s roadbook, on the hilltop trails of the Clwydian Range. We’ve tested the Jeep Compass Trailhawk in this issue, too, and guess what we did with it…? Away from the lanes, we’ve got features on an old-school winch challenge Discovery, one of the most beautiful restored Land Cruisers you’ll ever see and a very special Jeep Wrangler – the Rubicon 20, a show car built to celebrate two decades of the world’s best turn-key off-roader. The Rubicon is a vehicle built with rock crawling in mind, but what’s it named after? Only one of the most famous ‘green lanes’ in the world. Seems there’s no getting away from the theme this month.
