Dear Readers, It is always nice to have an opportunity to catch up with you all and keep you up to speed with what the Academy’s community are up to. The Academy can become quite lively at times with our monthly newsletters, gallery designs and ongoing challenges. We are so fortunate that we have a number of well-known designers who continue to give us their support. It is so generous of them and it means that not only do we have designs which we wouldn’t normally be able to access but they are unique to the Academy. The latest design challenge was from Julie Roces. It is one of the designs from her wonderful book of fans called ‘Abanico’. This was a private publication by Julie who, therefore, owns the entire copyright and it was so kind of her to offer it to us to demonstrate the way different techniques can bring so many different looks to a parchment project.

The latest gallery design also proved very popular, incorporating a grid frame with a floral central design. Susan Moran provides these for us as she is our resident designer. These patterns are suitable for all skill levels but of course there are an abundance of tutors willing to help anyone out if needed. These are all free designs and available to all members be they students or level 3 tutors. That's what is so nice in the Academy, we really do look out for each oth
