Be inspired to breathe new life into interiors as we round up the latest and most stylish themes in fabric and wallpaper design, from timeless trellis to bucolic country scenes

Traditional textiles created by artisans across the globe using time-honoured techniques have long been a rich source of inspiration for print designers. The ikats of Uzbekistan to Mexican Otomi embroider y have provided the starting point for many new fabric and wallpaper designs this season, their motifs and patterns reimagined into fresh, new prints. ‘Nomadic interiors are an expression of voyages abroad and the gathered crafted elements of a well-travelled life,’ says James Eden, marketing manager at Colefax Group. ‘When decorating with travel-inspired prints, the trick is to be brave with the patterns you partner together but keep balance in mind. A strong stripe with a decorative floral allows for different styles and cultural references, yet maintains a classic feel,’ he adds. Reminiscent of the brightly coloured brocade designs found in Central America, the embroidered Javalli stripe fabric on this headboard adds a playful touch of pattern. £89 per metre, Jane Churchill.

FOLK MOTIFS Wallpaper brand Dado Atelier has teamed up with Studio HÁM to create a range of wallpapers that draw on the founders’ love of folk art. One of four designs, Cabin Stripe features naive, wildernessinspired, symbol-style motifs reminiscent of campfire adventures, divided with simple chevron stripes to create a playful print that has a nod to Navajo textiles. Available in two colourways, Khaki or Rust (pictured), it is priced £165 per roll.
ANIMAL ANTICS Bring folksy animal fun into your home with the new Otomi wallpaper from Lewis & Wood. A beautiful twist on the traditional Otomi embroideries of Mexico that depict exotic creatures, this design features familiar British animals, such as hares, cockerels and swallows, intricately drawn to appear as if stitched into cloth. The playful design is available as both a wallpaper and printed linen in eight colourways, including Leafy (pictured), £86.32 per metre.

TWIST ON TRADITION Ikat Carnival pays homage to these traditional fabric designs. Found in South and Central Asia, South America and West Africa, ikats are woven fabrics made with yarns coloured through a resist dyeing process. Mind the Gap drew on the shapes found in historic examples and translated them into a beautiful block-printed wallpaper design, recently relaunched in three exciting colourways in collaboration with designer Minnie Kemp, including this electric blue, £229 per roll.
