The British Isles is blessed with an eventful past that continues to fascinate.

From castles to towers and manors to mansions, there’s no shortage of historic buildings to visit and photograph. And when it comes to editing, you could also aim to apply some history to your images.

Silver nitrate formed the basis of early photography, so you could only create a black-and-white image of your scene.

Times were also much harder, with poverty rampant and the divide between rich and poor even greater than today. You can evoke this feeling by creating a gritty look to your photo. In Lightroom, you do this using the Presence tools; Texture, Clarity, and Dehaze. For removing colour, Lightroom Classic CC has several ways to get there. The Treatment section allows the change from Color to Black & White. In the Profile Browser, you can change to the Adobe Monochrome Profile, where you can also access the range of creative Profiles available. If you prefer the mono look from your Canon’s Picture Styles, there are Profile emulations in the Camera Matching section. Import the Tower.jpg image to follow.
