VIBRATING REAL LIFE

Rachel Masterman, 50, from Caldicot, is always receiving gifts from her mischievous moggy...

Caught red-handed!

Hearing a familiar meow at the back door, I braced myself.

You see, my daughter Sophia’s cat, Demo, was a bit of a kleptomaniac.

Every morning she would announce her finds by proudly meowing on the doorstep.

From gardening gloves to bags of poo, she’d happily steal anything.

But she didn’t always have this strange compulsion.

About two years ago, Demo, now four, was hit by a car and suffered a serious head injury.

Despite all odds, going blind in one eye and losing a few teeth, she pulled through.

And after her recovery, she began nicking from the village.

The first time, she arrived at the door holding a bouquet of red roses.

She looked a funny sight and I couldn’t help but giggle –that is until Isaw the card.

For Dad, the greeting card read, and I knew where she’d got it.

‘Demo,’I groaned. ‘You can’t steal from grave yards!’

Demo didn’t care, thieving at any given opportunity.

Once, she even brought a handmade, silk flower arrangement home.

She’s a big fan of the cemetery –in fact, most of her steals are from the graveyard.

Snapping a picture, I posted it to our local Facebook page where I found the owner.

They belonged to a lady who left them on her sister’s grave. But luckily, she saw the funny side of Demo’s antics.

And Demo soon became known through the whole community for her thieving.

She gets referred to as ‘The Famous Thief of Caldicot’.

But because Demo is so lovely, everyone finds it funny.

Sophia, 16, and her brothers Ethan, 22, and Robbie, 13, find her hilarious.

Last year she started taking teddies from children’s graves.

Again, Iwas mortified when she brought them home.

Demo even seems to know what season it is – almost like what is in fashion to steal.

Last Christmas she kept bringing me fake robin decorations and in spring, she was bringing me gardening gloves and cable ties.

In summer she stole water pistols and aPeppa Pig swimming costume from the same ho
