‘We can work this out. We can go to counselling together,’ Ipleaded –trying to be persuasive.

Iwould have said absolutely anything to get him to stop.

‘Let’s just go to bed now,’ I suggested, squeezing my eyes shut as tears streamed down my face.

The throbbing pain in my head was getting worse – Anthony had been at it for hours.

‘Can you take me to hospital?’ I asked.

By this point, my head was really bad and Iknew Ineeded medical attention.

‘What are you going to say happened?’ Anthony quizzed.

‘I promise Iwon’t say anything –Ihad afall, that’s it,’ I confessed.

I didn’t dare say anything. Thankfully, after torture and torment, Anthony took me in silence to James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough.

With afive-hour estimated wait in A&E, needing observation and having to wait for adoctor, Anthony stayed in the room as I explained what had happened.

Iwas terrified that the nurses would see through my lies, but I didn’t want social services to get involved.

They’d split the family up. Only, as Anthony stood outside from time to time, I took my chance while I could. ‘He’s battered me, come here,’ Iwhispered to Nicole on the phone.

Rushing to meet me along with her best friend Emily, they supported me.

‘Get away from my mum now,’ Nicole hissed, raging with anger. And with that, Anthony disappeared. ‘I hate him,’ Nicole said, giving me atight hug.

Left black and blue, my heart rate and blood pressure were high, but medics confirmed that Iwas able to go home later that morning.

With Nicole and Emily coming in ataxi with me, Sonya met me back at my house, too.

Only, Iknew that Anthony was next-door.

I didn’t want the kids anywhere near him.

‘You’ve got to ring the police,’ Sonya insisted.

And in that moment, even though he was my husband, I knew it was time.

Enough was enough –so that’s what I did.

Arrested straight away on 4 January, Anthony Young, 47, was charged with false imprisonment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray for using aknife and threatening awoman.

Needing to give astatement, with the forensic team coming over to take pictures of my bruises and detectives wanting the CCTV that we had fitted outside of the bar, it was awful.
