OUT OF THE BLUE REAL LIFE

Gemma Hampton, 37, from North Dorset, thought her hubby was losing interest – the truth was far worse…

Causing a scene in the street, I wanted to win the argument.

‘Let me push her pram,’ I chuckled.

‘You did it last time!’ my hubby Andy, now 54, whined.

Anyone would have thought we were toddlers.

However, we were just excited to show off our daughter Isabelle, now three.

Within the first month of bringing her home, in March 2020, it was abattle over who would hold her, feed her and change her nappy.

Only, in most cases, Andy would win.

He’d be there to help before I could even think about it.

Which was just one of the things that I loved about him.

Meeting in April 2016, at a friend’s wedding in Cyprus, we hit it off straight away.

And when we returned to England, I made the move from Croydon to Dorset to join Andy, just before ayear of being official.

With an age gap between us, Andy already had two children, Fin and Alisha, from aprevious marriage.

My mum June, now 62, sister Toni, 33, Andy’s mum Ann, 83, and brother James were thrilled, too.

With the pregnancy smooth sailing until aweek before our baby was due in May 2022, the midwives weren’t happy with my blood pressure.

‘They want me to have afew tests at Dorset County Hospital,’ I told Andy.

‘Oh OK,’ Andy said, brushing it off.

‘Well, are you going to come with me?’ I asked.

That’s strange, Iwould have thought that would be the first thing he’d suggest…

We have to stay positive together

Only, with Andy starting a new job as an estate agent, I assumed he was stressed.

Monitored for afew days, we had aC-section booked.

However, on 25 May 2022, I woke up feeling contractions.

Waking Andy up and calling Mum so that she could travel from Croydon, it was all systems go.

Only, Andy didn’t think so. ‘I’m going to go back to bed,’ Andy announced.

What? I thought.

Old Andy would have been there holding my hand.

Only, after alittle nap, we went to Dorset County Hospital together as Mum st
