EMPOWERING REAL LIFE

For Faye Bailey, 48, from York, there is nothing better than getting down to abit of Shania Twain...

Named after a megastar

Switching on the stereo, Idanced alongside Shania in the kitchen. ‘Let go girls!’ we cheered as the song started up.

With abang of country pop music, Iwas in my element.

Icould tell Shania was, too – it was what she was born for.

But it wasn’t Shania, the country music icon Iwas dancing with. It was my daughter, Shania, 24.

Given the importance Shania Twain has in my life, I couldn’t help but name my daughter after the star.

Although it did take alittle bit more convincing for my husband Richard, 51 –he was always aStone Roses fan.

But as aShania Twain superfan, I wasn’t taking no for an answer.

And even when Shania was born on 29 February 2000, From This Moment On came on the radio as soon as I delivered her.

It was like Shania Twain herself had approved!

And it has always been my favourite Shania song –I listen to it constantly!

I’ve loved Shania Twain since Iwas 15.

The first time Isaw her was when she performed at the Brit

Awards, and Iwas absolutely blown away.

From first watching her strut her stuff singing about Brad Pitt, Ibegan researching more and more about her life.

And hearing about her upbringing –losing her parents and raising her siblings –Iwas inspired by her strength.

Shania was the sort of gal you’d want to have your back.

And that’s exactly what she became for me.

Iused Shania’s music to lift me up when times have been really tough.

As well as Shania, Ihave my son Oliver, 20.

And both Oliver and Richard have had to get used to having a home full of Shania Twain.

More so Richard as I’ve decorated our bedroom with a Shania Twain theme.

Splashing posters up the walls, Ieven have all my T-shirts on display, too.

And of course, Ihave my special light up cowboy hat which takes pride of place in the room.

I also have Canadian flags around the house as ahomage to Shania’s home country.

And while Oliver prefers the indie groups like his dad, my Shania is abig fan like me.

The main reason I’m such a Shania Twain superfan is because of the strength that her lyrics give me.

Meeting my favourite icon

With complications from endometriosis and abreast cancer diagnosis in 2015, Shania got me through.

I’d listen to her music constantly through treatment, repeating the lyrics to From This Moment On over and over to myself.

And driving home after getting the al
