It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new... editor! Hello, I’m Katy and it’s both a pleasure and a privilege to be editing Platinum, taking the reigns from the lovely Sally Saunders, who did a stellar job with this monumental magazine at short notice. She did great work and I’m excited to be handed the batton to continue where she left off.

This issue has a bit of a “digital detox” theme running through it. There’s no denying that smartphones have infiltrated our lives – for better and worse. I know my phone has affected me in terms of struggling to fall asleep if I’ve been looking at it too close to bedtime, and I’m not alone; our feature by Jo Dunbar explores the rise of screen use among Gen X, which appears to be overtaking Millennials, and the damage it can cause (page 108). What we can do though it set boundaries around phone usage, and as part of a group health coaching course, one of my priorities was to turn off my phone by 8pm each evening – read how I got on (page 114). The final resort is ditching our smart phones altogether and going back to old, “non-smart” ones (not likely though).
