A fine romance might be in the air, in which case, one of the first things that springs to mind is a glorious sunset.

You’ve no doubt seen plenty on your camping trips, but how many moonrises have you witnessed? There is something very special, and intimate, about watching the moon slowly rise to its zenith, especially when reflected in rippling waters below. One splendid spot for moongazing is Dwyros campsite (dwyros.co.uk/croeso-1) at Aberdaron, on the Llŷn Peninsula.

Just a short stroll from the village and the beach, this is the perfect place to cosy up under a blanket outside your caravan, maybe toast some marshmallows or enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple, and watch the wonderful moonrise together.

Try a little stargazing, too – can you spot Cupid (one of the smallest constellations)? Or your birth constellations?

Another activity that springs to mind when planning a romantic weekend away is a horse-drawn carriage ride.

But for something different, take to three wheels instead, and enjoy a tuk tuk fairytale tour through enchanted English countryside. There are several companies offering rides, including Lovetuktuks in the Yorkshire Dales (lovetuktuks.co.uk), whose friendly owner Andrew happily helps make your trip extra special with blankets and bubbly.

A stay at nearby Harrogate Caravan Park (harrogatecaravanpark.co.uk) also offers opportunities for pampering at the opulent Turkish baths (turkishbathsharrogate.co.uk), while a visit to Fountains Abbey (national trust.org.uk/fountains-abbey-and-studley-royal-water-garden) completes your break.

For a romantic evening of superb cocktails and fine oysters, you can’t beat Glasgow’s Atlantic Bar & Brasserie (atlanticbrasserie. co.uk) – they also serve a splendid French menu if shellfish isn’t your thing. Or try the Crabshakk (crabshakk.co.uk), smaller and noisier, but a great deal of fun.

Nearby sites to sleep off those cocktails and all that fine dining include the West Highland Way Campsite (westhighlandway campsite.com), which can also help you arrange a whisky tour or 4x4 adventure to complete your weekend, or the slightly closer Red Deer Village Holiday Park (reddeervillageholidaypark.co.uk), ideal for visiting cultural centres and beauty spots.
