Feeling Bude

We enjoy your regular ‘48 hours’ feature, particularly the recent one on Bude (issue 470), a town that has a special place in our family’s heart. We have visited for years and agree with you that the beach and the seawater lido are its best attractions. I think you were lucky with the parking on your visit, though – it’s often heaving, especially on summer weekends. We’ve stayed at several campsites in the area, including two of the sites you mention: Upper Lynstone and Wooda Farm Holiday Park are both lovely.

The Bank at Bude tapas restaurant is indeed excellent. It serves delicious food in a beautiful setting and is always our first Bude foodie recommendation to friends planning a visit. We love it there – surf, sand and a Bude… iful pool – what’s not to like?

That first beer at sunset, after a long drive and then setting up on site, is a firm favourite in our van, but is there a way you can keep touring traditions alive without adding to the payload?

After a great night’s sleep at the campsite in Dorset, I (like many others) was transfixed by the smell of freshly baked pastries and bacon rolls wafting across the site from the café, just a two-minute walk from our caravan door.

When you are in the ‘van bubble’, it’s easy to see how this might become habitual, and never mind the resulting dent in your pocket!
