SEASONAL ICE RINKS pop up all over the country during the winter months. Here’s our pick of some of the best venues, with plenty of other things to do if you’re not confident on skates!

Royal Pavilion Ice Rink

Bathed in the bright lights of Brighton’s Royal Pavilion, this most romantic of ice rinks has a rinkside snack bar serving, among other treats, mulled wine and hot chocolate with marshmallows. Tickets are £11.

Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland

This seasonal extravaganza offers visitors an ice rink and a walk in the gorgeous grounds of Cardiff Castle, along with family-friendly entertainment and festive food and drink. For the grown-ups, this includes an ice bar, at City Hall Lawn. Adult skating tickets cost £16.

Eden Project Ice Rink

Combine a scenic winter visit to Cornwall’s iconic botanic biomes with a spot of skating at this pop-up rink. Skating slots must be pre-booked and cost £9 for adults in addition to your Eden entry fee.

Edinburgh Ice Rink

The Scottish capital’s legendary Hogmanay celebrations are always hugely impressive, with torchlight processions, street parties and the Concert in the Gardens. Expect live music, fireworks and illuminations, and at George Street, a large pop-up ice rink. Adult skate tickets cost from £10 to £16.

Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland

Santa’s Grotto, a funfair and The Chalet Alpine café are just some of the attractions at this free-to-enter event (tickets are required for the grotto and ice skating). Skating is available at the Ice Factor, the north of England’s largest outdoor rink, with 975 square metres of ice around a 30ft Christmas tree. Adult skate tickets cost £14.50.
