The generous lounge makes this a comfortable family caravan; there’s plenty of storage and a high spec, too

LIKE THE ANCONA reviewed in issue 475, the Amalfi is one of two new models added to Bailey’s 75th birthday celebration range. The Amalfi has a layout that hasn’t featured in the Bailey line-up for years, with an offside rear-corner bed next to a pair of bunks.

Pitch and set-up

Unlike the Ancona, the Amalfi is a twin-axle, as you would hope, because it is a six-berth and because of the additional payload that having so many on board usually entails.

For this reason, it is good to see that, again unlike the Ancona, the corner steadies here are heavy duty. You also get ATC and an AKS 3004 stabiliser as standard to make things smooth on the road.

Lounge

The elegant lounge feels like somewhere you would want to spend time in, thanks to the large windows and the warm colour of the upholstery. Along with the ambient light behind the overhead lockers, there are two LEDs in the housing for the front central window and three spotlights to keep things bright at night.

A small storage unit to the right of the door houses a Sonos Bluetooth speaker, while a TV on the bracket above this would be visible to most people in the lounge.

The size of both the folding table and the lounge means six people could easily dine in comfort here. It is worth bearing in mind, however, that this is the only area for sitting – anyone wanting to relax while others were eating would probably have to move to the double bed at the rear of the van.

Kitchen

There is permanent workspace to the left of the large round sink in this side kitchen. It’s helpfully located next to two sockets, with enough space to use even if you bring along a low-wattage kettle and toaster.

More space, if needed, is provided by the wooden cover on the four-burner dual-fuel hob. The area is well lit by a large window, although some light would be blocked out once you raise that cover. The hob sits above a separate oven and grill. There is a flatbed microwave beside the overhead cupboards, and a slimline fridge opposite.

Washroom

It’s harder to disguise the wheel arch in a twin-axle, so it is no surprise that the arch here protrudes into the shower cubicle on the nearside of the washroom. But there’s plenty of headroom, and a rooflight.
