Classic Nostalgia

A flagship event for Shelsley Walsh, this year’s Classic Nostalgia weekend takes place on July 16-17. It’s always easy to lose much of the day just ogling classics in the car park, but throughout the weekend there will be one iconic car after another tackling the world’s oldest still-active motorsport venue.

Gerry Marshall’s son Gregor will be driving a raft of his father’s cars, including a twin-turbo Aston Martin V8-powered Vauxhall Magnum, and there will be more than 20 BRMs on hand to celebrate 60 years of the marque’s F1 World Championship success. An array of Group A and B rally greats will be doing demo runs and you can win a ride in the ex-Colin McRae Metro 6R4. Add in a concours event and lots of car club support, and it’s set to be a tremendous weekend. More at shelsleywalsh.com.

Got to ’B there!

MG ROARS BACK TO LIFE

The world’s biggest MG festival is set to return to Silverstone on June 11-12, after a three-year hiatus. MG Live! will feature octagon-badged classics of every type and era, with thousands of cars expected to turn up to be a part of the event. While there will be an autojumble and trader village, as well as plenty of entertainment on the live stage, most of the excitement will centre on motorsport. As a result, you can expect autotests and autosolos, while the circuit will also be in constant use.

EVENT OF THE MONTH

Gaydon back to its Rootes

Inaugural event for the entire community

The first Rootes Heritage Day is set to take place at the British Motor Museum on July 17, with a massive array of cars expected to turn up.

One of the team behind the event is Andy Bye, who helps to run the Rootes Archive Centre Trust, which is working with the British Motor Museum to make the day happen.

Andy told us: ‘We felt that it was time we took the initiative and tried to get all of the Rootes community together for one big event, where we can celebrate the history of Rootes and beyond.

We’re hoping many ex-employees will join us to celebrate their working lives in the motor industry.

The aim is to make this an annual event, which becomes a must-do for individuals as well as clubs.

‘We’d really like as many clubs as possible to put on displays or encourage their members to take part.

Our hope is that some members of the Rootes family will be there, and lots of traders so that there will be a decent autojumble.’

If you’d like to be a part of the inaugural Rootes Heritage Day, you can book your tickets via tinyurl. com/4xkpzsx4. Book in advance and you’ll pay just £14.50 per
