Fun in the sun!

It’s chuffing great up north!

This year’s Doncaster Classic Car Show has a new venue for when it returns on July 9. One of those helping to organise it is Nigel Thorley, who comments: ‘The event has been put on by the Doncaster St Georges Rotary Club for the past 16 years and we now attract 800 vehicles and 5000 spectators. At the last event in 2019 we raised around £20,000, with all profits going into a range of good causes. The event is open to veteran, vintage, classic and modern classic cars, small commercials and bikes. We have entertainment and displays, trade stands, a catering village, licensed bar and children’s rides, so it’s an excellent family day out.’ All you need to know is at doncasterclassic carshow.org.

BUMPER JULY FOR GAYDON

Will you be heading to Gaydon this summer?

July is set to be one of the busiest months of this season for the British Motor Museum, with many events taking place. The Old Ford Rally will be happening on July 17. A week later it’s the turn of the Big MINI show, with an emphasis on BMW Minis, although all Minis are welcome. What’s got us the most excited though is the BMC and Leyland Show, with hundreds of classics expected. There’s a special display to mark 60 years of the BMC 1100 and 1300, so if you have one of those then be sure to make a beeline for Gaydon on July 10, when it’s all taking place. A follow up event was planned for 2020, but Covid put paid to that. Originally set to take place at Sywell Aerodrome, Roverfest 2022 will now be based in the beautiful North Buckinghamshire village of Weston Underwood (MK46 5JS) over the weekend of August 5-7.

The new, larger site will enable the whole weekend of activities to be held on one site with the additional facility of camping for those who want to attend on more than one day.

The event is being organised by the Joint Rover Clubs of Great Britain; an umbrella organisation made up of eight different Rover car clubs. One of those behind Roverfest is Jeremy Howson of the Rover 200 & 400 Owners’

Club. He told us: ‘This will be the national event for several of the clubs involved. The weekend will get underway with Friday evening fish and chips (pre-booking essential), then on the Saturday there will be driving accuracy tests and the opportunity to take part in road runs.

That evening there will be an informal dinner (pre-booking essential). Sunday is the main event with cars parked in model order and judged by visitors. On Sunday there will also be trade stalls and an autojumble with plenty of refreshments served throughout the day. There’ll also be a
