Disc brake backplates often end up rusty, damaged or missing altogether. Fortunately, Heritage Parts Centre can now supply inexpensive new ones (part no: 191-615-309/A) for Volkswagen Golf MkIIs and MkIIIs and Corrados, with either 256mm or 280mm front discs. Worth getting – they are designed to enable more reliably efficient braking after all.

Bust that rust

Induction heaters are semi-magical contraptions that super-heat ferrous nuts and bolts to bust them free of rust – and perform a few other tricks too. This new kit has a 1500W heater in a carry case, together with six different types of heating coil. The three tubular coils are for fixings of varying sizes, the flat coil will lift decals, the U-shaped coil can be customised to help fix dents, and the 1000mm flexible coil is ideal for breaking corrosion on seized 02 sensors, ball joints or other large components. The main tool weighs 2.4kg, and it incorporates an LED light for better visibility of the job.

WEBER 48IDA OVERHAUL KIT £118.86 These versatile carbs, used in various high-performance American V8s and air-cooled VW race engines, can now be comprehensively overhauled at home, thanks to this kit from Webcon (part no: 9210500500). More comprehensive than their existing service kit, the overhaul kit contains extras such as a float, needle valve and gauze cover, as well as springs, gaskets and tabs.
