MGs and much more to enjoy

Brian Perry dropped us a line to tell us all about the Harrogate MG and Classic Car Club. Brian is the chairman of the group, which was founded 40 years ago specifically for MG owners. But last year the club decided to open its doors to owners of any classic car. Says Brian: ‘We wanted to increase the breadth of the club, so we now welcome any car from any era. We're essentially a social group so if you love your car, you're welcome to join us. The change was very well received and within our ranks we now have marques as diverse as Alvis, Morris, Mercedes and more.’ harrogatemgclub. org.uk

Midgets and more – all cars invited.

YOU'VE BEEN TWINGOED

Believe it or not, but the brilliantly innovative original Renault Twingo is celebrating its 30th birthday this year. Although the car was never sold in the UK officially, or built with right-hand drive, it still has a decent following over here. John Hammond runs the Twingo Mk1 Owners group (tinyurl.com/bdzb3p3f). He comments: ‘We're a Facebook group catering solely for the original Twingo, and this year we're set to hold a gathering at the British Motor Museum on April 1, because this tiny Renault went on sale across Europe in April 1993. The group offers both support and advice to Twingo owners in the UK relating to spares and technical issues, and it would be great to see a few Practical Classics readers at our event.’

EVENT OF THE MONTH

Another big year of events planned for Gaydon

Land Rover fans will be getting together at Gaydon on May 7-8.

The British Motor Museum (BMM) at Gaydon is gearing up for some big changes, with expansion planned in various ways. The intention is to increase the amount of display space as well as the number of events, and this season is set to be the busiest ever.

Bring the whole family!

Tom Caren is the BMM's events manager, and he told us: ‘By the time this issue lands with readers, we'll have already had the Historic Rally Car Register's annual open day as well as an evening with Lotus, but with 38 events in our 2023 calendar, there's plenty still to come. Our first Gaydon Gathering happens on April 11 and runs through to October, on the second Tuesday of each month; these evening get-togethers are free to attend.’

New events for this year include Vaux ALL on May 13, the Saab International weekend on August 5-6, the NSVA Nationals on August 13 and the Italian Wheels Day on September 16.

The Gaydon Land Rover Show on May 7-8 will mark 75 years of Land Rover, a special one-off show to mark the MG Centenary will take place on May 27, while the BMC & Leyland Show on July 9 will celebrate 50 years of the Allegro and 40 years of the Maestro.

Other highlights include the Ultimate BMW Show (April 30), the National Metro & Mini Show (June 4), the Classic & Vintag
