Where we say well done to Aaron and his dad

The free to enter competition was won by Aaron Tourle, who came to pick it up with his dad , and had the added 'joy' of meeting all of us!

We really enjoyed putting together our Fixing Up series with Amazon last year. Two classics, a VW T4 Camper and an R129 Mercedes 320SL were revived at the PC workshop with Amazon sourcing and delivering parts and kit. It was fun, and put the idea of fixing up older cars into the heads of a whole new audience.

With the Mercedes we decided to run a competition, the latest in a long line of PC project giveaways (remember the Granada MkI pork pie guessfest or the Cresta ‘spot the key’ comp?). The Merc was won by Aaron Tourle, a young car nut who couldn’t believe it when he found out. He and his dad made their way to our workshop to collect their prize and I was immediately struck by Aaron’s real enthusiasm for an ‘old man’s’ car.

Because all of our classics, whatever their age, cease to be ‘old men’s cars’ when they stop being owned by we old men. It’s that simple. Aaron, behind the wheel of a 320SL, immediately turns that car into a young man’s weapon. The driver, in so many ways, defines how the vehicle is perceived by others.
