Friendship with benefits

Clubs are looking at all sorts of ways to attract and retain members, and White Horse Classic Vehicle Enthusiasts have hit on just the thing: awhole host of extra-curricular activities. The club's Darren Cummings told us: ‘We cater for classics of all types and we're very active at shows, but members have asked if we can add non car-related activities, too.

This year we opted for gliding and karting, which were incredibly well received; to better engage with our membership we need to be more rounded in what we offer. We have used the gliding to build arelationship with our local gliding club to do afew cross-over activities next year, such as parties and BBQs.’ More at whitehorse-cve. com.

VINTAGE VARIETY AT SILVERSTONE

The Pomeroy Trophy, one of the most intriguing events in the classic calendar, takes place at Silverstone on February 17. Run by the Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC), it’s a test to find the best touring car via a series of challenges that test a car's performance and its driver’s skill. VSCC club secretary Tania Brown said: ‘First run in 1952, the Pomeroy Trophy is open to any car old or new, and while there is a class for track-only cars, the trophy can be won only by a vehicle that is road-legal. Previous winners have included a Subaru Impreza, Ford Escort RS2000, Frazer Nash Targa Florio and a Lotus Elan. It's a great event to be a part of, and we offer free entry for spectators to come and have a look at what we do.’ All you need to know can be found at vscc.co.uk.

Interclub weekend is go

Momentum is growing fast, for the first ever Interclub International Weekend, which will take place at the Malvern Three Counties Showground on June 28-30. It's an evolution of the three-way weekend set up by the Triumph Sports Six Club, TR Register and MG Car Club that has run for the last few years, but this year all car clubs are invited to take part, to turn it into a gigantic classic car extravaganza.

One of the organisers is Wayne Scott, who comments: ‘There are no up-front costs for any participating club, and the event is run for the benefit of the attending clubs, with their members placed front and centre of the action as the show’s focus. The show is open to any UK-based vehicle club and will be run on a not-for-profit basis.’ Tickets have just gone on sale via interclubweekend. com, with sales allocated to each participating club via a discount code.

More than 20 clubs have either committed to taking part or are considering doing so, and among them are the Morgan Sports Car Club, the Standard Motor Club, the Gay Classic Car Group and the Cambridge-Oxford Owners' Club. The latter will be marking 70 years of the A40/ A50 Cambridge and A90 Westminster.

As well as traders and an autojumble there will be camping, entertainment, a concours
