Iloved Rustival. The team behind it got the price right, they got the tone right, they got the venue right and they got the organisation right. And it was full; full of a huge variety of cars and people from all four corners of our classic world. To be honest, it felt a bit like this magazine in show form.

It wasn’t a free show. YouTubers plugged their wares, merch was sold, costs were covered and service providers paid, but the frustration so many of us feel with apparent greedflation and nest-feathering was answered with fair prices and a friendly face. The British Motor Museum hosted, taking away so many logistical costs that other events have to deal with.

But hey, I don’t mind a show in a car park as long as the vibe is good. And it was. There was no snobbery.

Everyone was welcome, it was inclusive and I was struck by the number of young people in the audience. This sort of event is the future. But it is also the past. Its relaxed nature, eclectic mix, and decent value mirrored nearly every local classic car show I've ever attended, only on a national scale.

In a funny way, Rustival has taken us back to our roots. Folk getting together for the love of cars – it’s a bold idea, but it may just catch on.

The Quest Drive app is a car treasure hunt on your phone – with lots of added features. Here's how it works. Find the locations to get the next instruction and follow the correct route. Answer timed, route-themed questions to score the highest points – the more accurate your answer, the more points you get.

The most observant will also score on the retrospective observational questions. The correct route is mapped out by GPS and, if you deviate from it, it is all recorded. It’s perfect for competitive classic owners and clubs – well worth a look if you're organising an event. We tried it out co-driving and it was ridiculously addictive.

The QuestDrive app, which was expertly devised by motorsport professional Elise Whyte (pictured with her rallying Standard), is designed for use by your co-driver. Quest Drives are run under a Certificate of Exemption from Motorsport UK.

Organisers of Britain’s newest classic car show have promised it’ll return in 2025 after declaring it a roaring success. The inaugural Rustival on March 9 at the British Motor Museum attracted 2500 visitors and more than 950 vehicles
