1996 Yamaha TRX850

Owner: Andy Dobson Owned for: two years So far: resto-mod What’s next: get out and scare some Ducati owners

J ust finished this resto-mod of a very sorry but low-mileage TRX850. The bike was standard apart from an aftermarket fairing, stubby Delkevic cans and a poorly set up Dynojet kit. She now sports a full YZF750 front end with R1 brakes, a Nitron R2 shock and a oneoff paintjob by me with help from a mate with a spray booth.

I had rebuilt the original carbs back to standard spec but have since fitted Mikuni TDMR flatslides. The apocalyptically loud Delkevics have been replaced with a pair of silencers from Max Torque Cans. I’ve also installed an Ignitech programmable ignition module. All that remains to do now is get her on the dyno.

1997 Honda VTR1000 Firestorm

Owner: Colin Martin Owned for: six years So far: Maxton suspension upgrades What’s next: full service

W hen I bought my house off of a mate six years ago, he left his first ‘big bike’ in the garage hoping one day I’d get it back on the road for him. Well the garage refurb is done and I’m finally getting at it.

It’s a basic recommissioning with a few special requests from my mate. One being that he wanted the front and rear suspension upgraded and sprung to his weight. Maxton have worked their magic on the original forks and supplied a new shock. While it’s apart I’m changing out all the swingarm and linkage bearings as well as fitting new Black Widow headers.

Gold spots, gold disc carriers, gold stanchions... yep, black and gold it is then. No-brainer

1996 Yamaha YZF1000R Thunderace

That looks like a very well-organized refit underway. Like it

Owner: Mike Oakes Owned for: one year So far: trackday conversion What’s next: ride around in circles

Myplan for this stock Thunderace was simply to fit some race bodywork to make it a trackday rider. Then it ran away from me. I got some race bodywork, for a YZF750R. I’ve also fitted R1 forks with Öhlins internals, an Öhlins shock, and a YZF750 swingarm.

The engine got some YZF750 camshafts for more lift; Alan Bainbridge at SNT fitted those, and an Ignitech ignition. There’s also a Honda FireBlade radiator, a custom wiring loom, CBR600 stick coils, Gilles rearsets, and I’m just waiting for a decal kit to arrive. The tyres are sticky Bridgestone R11s. I carried out all the work myself including the paint.

Top job with the paint. That’s a really nice, ripe strawberry red. Ace
