PS’s VF project rescued from numpty-land

Back in the hands of someone who gives a...

I’ve just got to the back pages of November’s issue and noticed the little inclusion of the VF project bike, in Project Hunter. It’s now mine. Yes, it was scooped up from someone who knew very little about, well, anything at all about it, apart from trading bikes. He told me, he even had people messaging him about the history – and he basically ignored it all.

I got the usual type of story, he got it from a guy who needed the money, who’d not ridden it, who didn’t know anything about it either.

I followed Chris’s build, from start to finish and I’m also a long time NC owner, who still has a couple, tucked away.

When I saw the terrible eBay advert, I knew I’d buy the bike, as I knew it wouldn’t go for much, with a title saying VFR/NC30 conversation (sic).

It’s now nestled in my garage, to be gone through over winter.

It’s clean enough but wants a few bits, nothing silly but simply a tidy up and a bit of powdercoat, it’s mostly as fresh as it was, when finished.

No idea what I’m going to do with it afterwards but, I really didn’t want any more numpties getting their hands on it.

Super single garage

When I bought my first home in March 2020 this garage was an empty brick shell with one light and two sockets, complete with an old pull out fuseboard, and a 20-year-old damaged up and over door.

I spent my first two months of converting it into a bright and airy space to work in, with more power sockets and lights than I know what to do with, and a 16A welder socket for a welder I’ve never got round to buying.

I currently work on an ’86 GSX-R400 in here and an 1980 CB250RS featured in In Your Shed pages many years ago – and still isn’t finished. Hope you like it...

Yes, we do. A Great British Garage, no less – MG

She’s a she so she is, see?

Strictly, a bike is an it, innit? Only sailors still call their boats shes, don’t they?

Here’s one to whet Alan’s (Seeley) appetite. I’ve owned the bike for nine years, here she is in her original clothing. Started her complete refurbishment during lockdown. Frame back from powdercoating through to finished rebuild.

Go out and get one

Mike Diboll (Star Letter, PS Mail, PS November 2022) should certainly go for a GSX-R1000. I bought one after 50-odd years of riding big and small bikes.

Had mine nearly eight years now, bought as a 70th birthday present. Still comfortable enough for a 100 mile blast, and still gives me an adrenaline rush fr
